The company is a producer of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) and specializes in the optimization of supply chain management. The focus of their applications lies in the automated lifting, turning and carriage of heavy loads.


The challenge

In the engineering of a new ‘smart’ AGV, the customer wanted wheels with a max. load capacity, a minimum mounting height and a maximum pivot radius. The AGV system moves at a speed of 1m/s and can, for example, lift containers to a height of 120 mm. For that, a positioning accuracy of ± 2 millimetres must be observed. Exact positioning is ensured by several sensors.



The optimal tread for this power-hungry application is the polyurethane Printhane-C™, developed by Vulkoprin. Printhane-C™ (93 Shore A) is conductive Vulkollan® that meets the standards EN12527 thru’ EN12533. An ideal solution for applications with a known risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD). The tread is mainly characterized by a low rolling resistance in combination with a max. load capacity. To facilitate a wider pivot radius under this high load, the adjacent tread is also finished to the same high specification.
