Customer
The customer has a state-of-the-art reputation in developing solutions for heavy load transport, machine construction and customized robot projects.

Challenge
Development of an AGV with a dynamic load capacity of 500 tons. Together with Vulkoprin, the customer developed a wheel solution with an optimal result between speed, high load capacity and shock load.
An additional challenge in this project was to keep the surface pressure of the wheel as limited as possible, in order to avoid floor damage.

Solution
For this application, Vulkoprin R&D developed fully custom-made wheels with a diameter of 650mm x 300mm and a Vulkollan® cover of 92 Shore A hardness. The high quality and licenced polyurethane cover provides a comfortable rolling and starting resistance on the variable surface, sufficient grip during acceleration and sufficient margin with the variable load.
In addition, the thicker wheel coating and optimized width resulted in a
surface pressure within the requested tolerances of the heavy load application.

Result
The customized wheel offers the optimal technical solution for the customers’ application. Due to the high wear resistance of the Vulkollan® bandage, maximum service life of the wheels of the 500 tons AGV is guaranteed. In addition, the accurate calculations give the end customer conformity to the highest safety requirements.
